10 ways that Duct Tape can help you at the Campsite

February 20, 2021

Keep these tips in mind on your next camping trip

Duct tape is strong, flexible and it adheres to a variety of surfaces, which makes it the ideal solution to a multitude of issues that you might encounter at the campsite.
Carry out a speedy repair to a damaged tent or sleeping bag, seal packets of food, or even fix a cracked water container - the possibilities are endless!

Top 10 uses for duct tape at the campsite

1. Repair a tear in your tent

Whether it's a tear in your tent, sleeping bag or even a camping chair, duct tape will provide an effective temporary repair in almost any situation.
For added strength apply the duct tape to both sides of the tear.

2. Fix a broken tent pole

Generally, tent poles are pretty robust, but should you arrive at the campsite to find that one of yours is damaged, find a suitable stick and use your duct tape to attach it to the damaged pole for extra reinforcement.

3. Seal packets of food

Opened food packets can attract wildlife to the campsite.
Use your trusty roll of duct tape to seal packets and keep unwanted visitors away! This will also help to keep your food fresh.

4. Make a fly trap

Flies and midges can be a real pain around the campsite, especially if you're close to a lake or river.
Try hanging strips of duct tape around your camp for a simple make-shift fly trap.

5. Keep your tent closed

Should your tent zip break during your camping trip, fear not! Simply use your roll of duct tape to tape the door shut until you can carry out a more permanent repair.
Duct tape can also be wrapped around small zippers to make them bigger and easier to find - so no more frantically searching for your sleeping bag zipper in the dark if you need to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night!

6. Cover a blister

If you're planning lots of walks or hiking during your camping trip, try placing a strip of duct tape on the heel of your foot before you set out.
Generally duct tape should be thicker and more adhesive than first-aid box plasters, so this should help to reduce the friction that causes blisters.

7. Fix a leaky water container

Duct tape is weather-proof so it's ideal for a temporary fix to a leaky water container.
Remeber to dry the surface that you're going to apply the duct tape to so that it can stick properly.

8. Repair broken wellies

Camping in the UK isn't always the driest of experiences, so you've probably got a good pair of wellies to take with you! But what if one starts to leak during your trip?
You've guessed it - reach for your roll of duct tape! As we've said, duct tape is weatherproof, so stick some inside of your leaky wellie to provide a temporary seal.

9. Protect broken lights

Accidents can happen on the campsite, especially if you're trying to manoeuvre your caravan or trailer tent, and often it's the lights that take the brunt of the damage.
Cover a broken light with your duct tape to keep it protected and waterproof  until you get home.

10. Make a washing line

Finally, if you forget to pack your washing line, try twisting a length of duct tape to make a simple alternative!

We hope that these tips will give you a head start in planning your next camping trip. If you're looking for a peaceful adult only campsite then why not give The Rodney Stoke Caravan and Camping Park near Cheddar Gorge in Somerset a try.
