Why West Country Parks?

Our Story

West Country Parks celebrated 50 years in business in 2022 and we’ve come a long way since Mr John Bareham bought his first park, Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes, near Burnham-on-Sea in 1972. 

What began as a small caravan park has blossomed into one of the South West’s largest independently owned residential and holiday park estates - and Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes is now the organisations Head Office, overseeing the day to day running of 11 residential and holiday parks.

As the years passed and the Bareham’s portfolio of parks grew, John and Sally’s daughter,  Sally, and her husband Sean Abrahams became more involved with managing and developing the newly acquired parks. In 1995 they amalgamated their (then) 4 parks under the West Country Parks banner.

Since John’s death, West Country Parks has grown rapidly and Sally and Sean continue to work together to this day. Over the last 10 years a third generation has also become involved with the business. In recent years Sean and Sally's son, Shaunessy Abrahams, has  opened his own touring caravan and motorhome dealerships, Sedgemoor Caravans, and Wessex Leisure. 

But if you thought that after 50 years in business things would start to slow down then you’d be wrong! The family continue to invest in all of the parks, with an emphasis on enhancing all of the facilities and services to create a safe, friendly environment for all of our visitors to enjoy.


From residential park homes and holiday home retreats to caravan touring sites and luxury lodges, we’re confident that you and your family will have the perfect, relaxing getaway with us!

Working to reduce our Carbon Footprint

Our business is reliant on visitors coming to enjoy the stunning Somerset countryside and we feel that it is our responsibility to do everything that we can to help repair the planet and reduce our carbon footprint, which is why we are proud to announce that West Country Parks has partnered with Energy Oasis. Through our partnership, we have committed to a three-phase plan that will see our business use less fossil fuels whist providing future energy security across our holiday parks. It is important to us that, as a business, we act now to help preserve the natural world for future generations to enjoy.


The work in developing our business is an ongoing process and details of the further phases of our plan will emerge as we continue to maintain our responsibility towards energy usage.

We have made extensive upgrades to our shower blocks, WC and laundry facilities! All of our parks also have a separate washing-up facility for our caravaners’ convenience.

We’re still just a short ride from the M5, so you’ll have access to the entire South West. That includes seaside resorts in Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare, as well as the Cathedral Cities of Bristol and Wells.
