Frequently asked questions about buying a static caravan holiday home

Aug 24, 2020

If you’re considering buying your own static caravan or holiday lodge it’s natural that you might have some questions

There’s a lot to consider, and with over 40 years of experience, we’ve probably been asked most things!

Here is our list of the 11 questions that we get asked most often;

1) How often can I use my static caravan during the year?

This depends on which of our holiday parks your static caravan or lodge is on. Our seasons range from 11 – 12 months.

Holiday Park Length of Season
Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes 11 - 12 months
New House Farm 12 months
Rose Farm 11 - 12 months
Fairways 12 months
Riverside Holiday Village 11 months

Owners can use their holiday homes as often as they like whilst the park is open.

2) How much is the ground-rent?

Again, this depends on which of our parks your static caravan is on.

A number of factors are taken into consideration when calculating our ground-rent including; location, length of season and facilities.

Holiday Park Ground Rent (2020)
Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes From £2,800
New House Farm £2,496
Rose Farm £3,120
Fairways From £2,700
Riverside Holiday Village From £3,600

3) Once I've paid my ground-rent are there any additional costs?

In addition to ground-rent owners are also responsible for gas and electric.

This will vary from park to park, but typically, gas and electric are billed on a meter (with the exception of Riverside Holiday Village where gas bottles can be purchased from reception). So you will only ever pay for what you use.

4) What Wi-Fi options are available on your holiday parks?

We have partnered with The WiFi Company, who offer various packages, with speeds comparable with BT Fibre.

Daily, weekly, monthly or annual options are available depending on your requirements.

Free Wi-Fi is also available in all of our clubhouses.

5) Do I need a TV licence?

Your static caravan or lodge is registered as a holiday home, not a residential property. If you have a TV Licence for your registered address you will not need another one for your holiday home.

6) Do you offer holiday caravan insurance?

We do not offer insurance.

Holiday home owners are welcome to use whichever insurance company they like. However we recommend Leisuredays. In the event of a claim, Leisuredays have given us authority to carry out repair work on their behalf - which speeds the whole process up considerably!

7) Do you offer finance?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer finance.

We recommend Pegasus. But buyers can use whoever they like.

8) Will I be responsible for cutting the grass around my holiday home?

No. All ground work is carried out by our team of groundsmen. You're on holiday after all!

9) If your holiday park is 'over 50's', does that mean that my children and grandchildren can't visit?

No. You can have visitors of any age but they cannot stay on the park on a long-term basis.

Our ‘adult-only’ and ‘over 50’s’ parks are great for visitors who want to enjoy the peace and quiet of a more ‘grown-up’ atmosphere but, (to be completely honest) they’re probably a bit too quiet for some of our younger visitors anyway!

10) Can I let my holiday home?

No. Private letting is not permitted on any of our parks. Your holiday home is for the enjoyment of you and your family.

Holiday homes are available for hire (through Hoseasons) at Riverside Holiday Village near Weston-super-Mare.

11) How can I pay for my static caravan or lodge?

To secure your purchase we require a 10% deposit which can be paid by bank transfer, cash, or card.

The balance is required prior to you taking possession of your new holiday home.

We hope this answers some of your questions about buying a static caravan holiday home. We offer a fantastic range of new and pre-owned static caravans and lodges for sale at 5 fantastic holiday parks in beautiful Somerset.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss your requirements in more detail.
