Visitors have been flocking to Weston-super-Mare to enjoy a seaside break since Queen Victoria was on the throne, and no visit would be complete without a trip to Weston Beach.
With around 2 miles of wonderful sand and boasting the second highest tidal range in the world, it’s completely free to visit Weston-super-Mare Beach (although parents may be persuaded to pay for a donkey ride or two)!
So, pack your bucket and spade, slap on your sun cream and spend a day at the seaside!
Just a short walk from the town centre, Marine Lake is an affinity lake and is said to be the largest of its kind in the world.
Providing a safer place to swim year-round in Weston-super-Mare, Marine Lake is a free place to swim and has become a popular place for water sports.
At over 200 metres long, Marine Lake is perfect for swimming laps or for splashing around on the water’s edge!
Both Grove Park and Clarence Park are just a short walk from the town centre.
Containing Jills Garden, in memory of local TV presenter Jill Dando, there’s lots to explore in Grove Park, and it is well used by residents and visitors to Weston-super-Mare.
In the north area of the park, you’ll find a children's play area and rock garden with ponds, and to the south, a bandstand which hosts free music events during the summer months. There are also two War Memorials and an abundance of (mostly) friendly grey squirrels!
Clarence Park also has its fair share of squirrels! It’s a just a few minutes from the sea front and has a great play area for children, plus lots of green space to run around. Pack your own picnic or pick something up from the parks’ cafe.
Weston Museum is another great day out for the entire family and admission to the museum is completely free! Discover the history of Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area from prehistoric times to the present day.
Weston Museum hosts some excellent exhibits and is currently (April 2024) home to the Dismaland Pinwheel, which has been loaned to the museum by the artist Banksy.
Located to the south of the village of Uphill, take a stroll South along Weston Beach to find Uphill Nature Reserve and Hill Walk.
The 17-hectare site has been designated as a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the hill is part of the Mendip Limestone Grasslands Special Area of Conservation (SAC), supporting a diverse flora and valuable insect habitat.
The Tidal Trail runs through the West of the reserve and there are public footpaths across the hill. And if all that walking doesn’t tire you out, a tower tops the hill that can be climbed to reveal some stunning panoramic views.
Situated just 5 miles South of Weston-super-Mare, Bleadon Levels Nature Reserve spans 27 hectares and consists of various grassland and wetland habitats.
If you’re staying at our Riverside Holiday Village or campsite, simply exit the park onto Accommodation Road and travel West onto Wayacre Drove. You’ll find the nature reserve on your left.
Take your time to explore the footpaths and you may be lucky enough to spot wild otters or hares. Spend some time in the bird hides located along the lagoon and you’ll probably see some ducks, waders and skylarks. And the best bit? Admission is free!
Enjoy a 3-mile circular coastal walk around Sand Point and Middle Hope, just North of Weston-super-Mare. With its ample birdlife, 13th century priory and stunning views across Sand Bay, remember to pack a picnic!
Please be aware that access to the coastal walk is free, however, if you’re not a member of the National Trust, you will have to pay to use the carpark (£5 as of April 2024).
If extreme sports are more your thing, Uphill Skate Park could be the perfect free place for you to visit in Weston-super-Mare!
Specifically designed for ‘street’ riders, Uphill Skate Park boasts banks, a selection of ledges, manual pads and rails built on a tarmac base.
For the last three years, The Upfest Weston Wallz project has been transforming the town and now, Weston-super-Mare has one of the largest outdoor collections of street art in the South West.
Spend a day discovering more than 40 pieces of original street art from some of the most talented artists around.

Worlebury Camp is an Iron Age Hillfort and a designated Scheduled Monument on Worlebury Hill, North of Weston-super-Mare.
The camp can be accessed by a path from Weston Woods carpark and visitors will be rewarded by beautiful views across Sand Point and Brean Down, as well as panoramic views of Weston Bay.
